Welcome Back Everybody!
Ok y'all. So this one's a doozy.
But. I think you can handle it.
Nothing but the finest choice jams.
From Spring Breakwave to Post-Spring Breakwave.
It's All Here.
P.S. Hope you're enjoying the beach.
Dead Sun (Museum of Bella Artes Remix) - Liquid Vega
A Deliberate, Paced Electro/Disco-pop with a dark edge. Should be played very late at night.
So Insane - Discovery
Between jj's "My Way" and "So Insane" it's a toss-up for jam of spring break. I have a soft spot for Breakbeats and falsetto's.
My Chariot - Depreciation Guild
I was really excited to see this band get some good press. I know they're at SXSW doing their thing right now. When my roommate Dustin and I were traveling around Europe this summer, we had the pleasure to go see The Pains of Pure at Heart play there first European gig in Antwerp, Belgium. It was a pretty good show, but the highlight was getting the opportunity to meet the band. We were some of the only American's there and we stuck out pretty easily. We struck up a conversation with Cristoph, who's not actually in POBPAH but was asked to play guitar to add some much needed texture to their live show. Bro couldn't have been nicer. He told us about the name of his band, but I was sort of drunk at this point and Dustin and I both forgot it. So when I stumbled upon a picture of Christoph with his band The Depreciation Guild, I couldn't have been more excited. In fact, the band's got a pretty solid sound for themselves. Check it out.
The Zookeeper's Boy - Mew
When I first heard My Chariot by The Depreciation Guild, I couldn't help but think of Mew. I've had countless times arguing about how awesome Mew is, but everyone has something against the Danish. Maybe this will change your mind.
Want You Back (Phaseone Remix) - Nite Jewel
Phaseone has always laid down some sick shit, and this is no exception. His remix of Nite Jewel's "I Want You Back" is pretty fantastic. As per usual, he cranks up the moodiness for good measure.
Show My Ass - Dominique Young Unique
This 18-year old from Tampa is a goddamn firestarter. With such reckless abandon, Unique's flow is go for broke bonkers. I'm sure Diplo wants to get his hands on this.
In Heat (Javelin Remix) - HEALTH
Usually when I listen to HEALTH, I'm in a pretty aggressive mood so I was blown away to hear them sound so funky and smooth. Javelin does a great job of retaining the original feel of the song while creating their own interpretation. The original's still fantastic.
It's Working - MGMT
So, I listened to Congratulations by MGMT with the impression it would blow after listening to "Flash Delirium" when it was released. I was completely, utterly wrong. This isn't the same band anymore. There is no "Kids" or "Electric Feel" on this album, just insanse progged out psychedelia a la Dukes of Stratosphear. Even "Flash Delirium" seems to fit on the album. This album's gonna get a lot of shit and probably tank, but it's probably from kid's being so used to minimalist chill wave and other electro stuff. This album a complete one eighty from the likes and it's incredibly refreshing. Album opener "It's Working" is a good wrap up of the album as a whole and will give you a good idea of what the rest of Congratulations has in store for you. Enjoy.
BTSTU - Jai Paul
On first listen to this song, I had no idea what to expect. In the first thrity seconds I thought it was going to be a Mountain Man song. And then the 808 kicks in. Hot Chip wishes they could get this disgusting. By the way, this is a demo.
Beyond Fantasy - Pictureplane
Pictureplane really really crept up on me. His song Goth Star really just used to annoy me until repeated listens had me hooked. And now he does it again with "Beyond Fantasy". As usual, you may check your speakers to make sure nothing's wrong with them, but then the song settles and it sort of just sucks you in. Pictureplane's definitley honing in on his own style, which includes chipmunk-ish samples and this weird overlapping of sound. Listen and you'll get the picture.
Deerfield Village - Rangers
Super hazy, beat driven tune. Sounds like someone might sm0ke a b0wl to this jam man.
Fall Straight Back - Eternal Summers
Lo-fi as fuck. Sounds like someone found this underneath their parent's beach house.
Human Gay Bones - Harlem
It seems like every time I close out a post now, I have to put out a new Harlem track off of Hippies. Seriously though, how could I not. This album is gonna be on repeat all summer long for me. There's nothing I could say about this band that I haven't before, so I'll just let the sunshine and booze do the talking.
